Trust in the Financial Sector Has Not Yet Recovered

10 years after the financial crisis, a lack of transparency, cooperation, and positive corporate citizenship still plague the sector

January 23, 2018. Davos. -- Ten key factors have prevented a recovery in trust for the global financial sector, according to new research from Media Tenor International presented today at the World Economic Forum in its Trust Meltdown IX report.

“With concerns about corruption, fraud, and fairness, the banking and financial industries have a long way to go to recover public trust,” says Roland Schatz, founder and CEO of Media Tenor. “But the opportunity for improvement is there through transparency, provably sustainable investing, and a commitment to the health of both Main Street and Wall Street.”

At Media Tenor’s SDG Lab at the World Economic Forum, experts will discuss the problems facing the financial sector and their impact on the global state of trust in business, economics, and politics. Participants include former President of NASDAQ, Alfred Berkeley; President of United Way Worldwide, Brian Gallagher; Dr. Katrin Muff, Dean of Lausanne Business School; Conor Platt, CEO of Confluence Capital; and Asa St. Clair, Treasurer of WSA.

Partnering with the UNGSII, Media Tenor's Trust Meltdown IX provides a scientific perspective that maps and evaluates global issues. This research looks at all 7,190,382 reports on international TV news and in opinion-leading business print media, January 1, 2001 - December 31, 2017 and all 376,663 statements in the 2016 annual reports of 400 leading corporations.
